Nose Piercing Information – Things You Need to Know
Ear piercing is the most popular type of body piercing today although belly button piercing is getting very popular too. Second to ear piercing is the nostril piercing. This is most prevalent in India, Africa and South Pacific.
Kinds of Nose Piercing
- Nostril – is the most common site for nose piercing. It’s either on the left or right side of the nose along the rim of the nostril. Whether you get pierced on the left or right side is your own choice.
- Bridge – This is the hardest to heal, Piercing is done through the skin of the bridge of the nose. This is also known as “Earl” named after the first man who regularly gets this type of piercing.
- Septum – also known as “bull ring” since you often see this kind of nostril piercing in a Cow. This piercing is made in the cartilage wall between the cavities of the nose at the bottom of the nostrils.
Kinds of Nose Jewelry
- Ring – This is the one recommended for starter jewelry. It will be easy for you to clean the piercing if you use ring jewelry for a start. Healing will be much faster then. You can always change it after your piercing is totally healed.
- Screw – this kind of jewelry started from India and has become popular in the West today.
- Studs/Bones/Pins – This isn’t recommended for those who are getting her/his first nose piercing. You will end up having big problems when you try to change it later.
- U-Bend – this kind of jewelry best work with Septum piercing. It is a “U” shaped jewelry that is worn with the ends flipped up inside the nostrils hiding the piercing with it.
- Spikes – this is another kind of jewelry that is good for septum piercing and sometimes do good too with bridge piercing but this is definitely not recommender for new user.
After care for Nose Piercing Information
- Use of Piercing Gun is a big NO! Piercing Guns are not safe to use since it is not sterilized thoroughly. Spread of blood born disease is possible so make sure not to use this thing for your nose piercing.
- Don’t use sterling silver in a new pierced nose. This metal tarnish and when use to a new piercing, it can permanently stain the skin. Thus new piercing should use stainless steel, niobium, titanium or 14k gold.
- Don’t use alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to clean it. Both can burn the tissue and may irritate it slowing the healing.
- During healing period, avoid hot tubs, swimming pools or swimming in ocean. Chlorine and other chemicals found in the water can irritate the piercing. There is also the possible bacterial infection you get in the ocean so try to avoid it. Sweat can also irritate your piercing so make sure to wash your face thoroughly and keep it clean and free of perspiration to avoid irritation.
- Don’t be in a hurry to change your jewelry. Nose piercing takes three months to heal. So make sure to change jewelry when you are sure that pierce is completely healed to avoid re-tear when you change the jewelry too soon.
